I bought an ophthalmoscope this week. I have tried fundoscopy a few times before, but with no success at all; I guess that my problem is partly due to my glasses and my weird astigmatic vision. Anyways, I got a PanOptic scope (at the moment, I'm wondering if they sent me the correct model; I'll have to check that when I get home). I tried it out today on Rococo, and it was incredible. I saw a fundus for the first time, absolutely crystal-clearly.
Went to Montana's for dinner in celebration; dessert was apple crisp.
I see in the NY Times that Shohei Imamura died a couple of days ago. Coincidentally, I just saw 'Warm Water Under a Red Bridge' last weekend. He made some strange movies; 'Unagi' (a.k.a. 'The Eel') was an interesting one. Both of those starred Koji Yakusho.

Apple crisp. Damn. I hope you thought about me as you ate it. I had dutch apple pie and apple crisp in LV. Nice. What show was it where a guy had the quote "Damn these eyes!". I'm too lazy to google.
I know, I recall the apple crisp in Fenway... and the deep-fried twinkies, now that I think about it.
Weird, I've never heard that expression before. Googling suggests it's everywhere. I guess it hasn't made it up here...
One question what is a fundus?
ah, i remember seeing a fundus for the first time - it was amazing! i have a problem with opthalmoscopes in that i can't close my right eye by itself. so i either have to hold it shut with a finger, or use my left eye. either way i look totally dorkish.
(apparently its a real problem about 10% of the population have - they can't close their dominant eye independently)
Ah, the fundus is the back of the eye. It's a nice view, with lots of blood vessels, the optic disk, etc. A few pics can be found here, a web page focusing on diabetic retinopathy.
Well, I'm glad I made this particular post, because it turned out that they had shipped me the cheaper scope! Well, they'll get me the correct one, but I am certain they won't get it to me before I leave town on Friday...
Hmm, Anna, I had never of that problem before... that is interesting. I'll have to look out for that amongst my classmates. My left eye is quite dominant, and I strongly dislike trying to use my right eye with the scope... maybe getting new contacts will change that for me. :)
