Le Week-End

Had exams today, in resp. Survived another course: whew. What I need to do, is cancel my zip.ca membership. Anyways, it's time to go intense on renal.

This weekend, we have the first round of interviews for next year's class. It will be interesting to see the process from the other side of the battlements. It turns out that around 900 people apply from out-of-province, for the 15 spots available to them; I had no idea there were so many o-o-p applicants. Meanwhile, around 700 apply for the 85 in-province spots. Neither is great odds...

You knew you had an uphill battle. Of course, you are a Superstar.

Hope the exam went well! So you only had 2 months of pulmo?! How long do stay on the same system?

The interviews, oh yea... so glad they're behind me!

Resp was actually only five weeks long! That's really short. The thing is, we only have one system-based course at a time, so things are extremely focused during that time...

At the end of the year, we have an 'integrative' course, that brings together all the subjects we covered that year. That's coming up in May, after the renal/urology and endocrine courses are done.

Uphill battle it was. It's all downhill from here! Is that a good thing?

5 weeks is indeed quite short! How many hours/week? And do you have other classes that are non-system-based? My pulmo exam is in 2 wks, so if I have questions, I can ask you then? hehe :-P

How is zip.ca? I'm battling between internet tv subscription versus online dvd rental subscription.

I was extremely happy with zip before. Starting in March, though, their four-out plan drops to a limit of 11 disks per month, so suddenly it isn't the greatest deal of all time anymore. But, delivery here is next-day, so that works out nicely. I'm not sure if delivery would be that great where you are...

Their movie selection is fine, but I wish their website had a better search engine...

Let's see, I think we have 20 hours of lecture in the main course, and then on top of that, we have two to four hours of year-long courses in 'medical skills' and 'research methods'. The rest of the time is either free, or filled with clinic time or physical exam time...

If you've got resp questions, feel free to send them my way, and we'll see if I can actually answer them. :)

OIC... 20 hours is a lot hehe! I'm SO glad I don't have 20 hours of cardio for 5 weeks in a row! That would be the end lol!
btw, do you have the equation for the alveoloarterial oxygen gradient near you? can't seem to find it...

Let's see, it should be:

PAO2=FiO2(Patm-PH2O)-PCO2/R

R is 0.8 at rest, maybe 1 at exercise.
