I finally got those pics uploaded, that I had scanned before my last post. One nice stereo pair from the Galata Mevlevihane. Good. :) Needless to say, I didn't stay up until 4 to process them on Thursday night, nor on Friday night. Should I start on the next roll? I actually have exams on Thursday and Friday, so I should be studying more than playing with old film. :)
Speaking of film, I've watched 22 movies within the last 30 days. I don't think I can keep up that pace, and still keep my marks in a satisfying range. Man, I want to see the new Harry Potter and Wallace & Gromit movies, but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe next weekend?
Anyways, right now I'm just baking some cookies to wind down, and I should cook some dinner so that I don't just eat cookies. Then, I should finally get down to studying. Or, should I watch another movie, 'Born into Brothels'? Tough call.

"Born Into Brothels" good movie. Depressing, but good. Just watched "Sideways", good movie. Motorcycle backdropped by a building, good in stereo. City view from a hill, not so much.
Well, maybe I'll watch it tomorrow. I shouldn't have cooked dinner. Why wasn't I satisfied with cookies? I ended up pulling a 'rice sausage' out of the freezer, that I had bought at a farmer's market here in town. I defrosted it, and boy did it smell funny. I could have sworn that it smelt like a bad liver sausage. So, I boiled it up, and lo and behold, it was liver sausage, with a bit of rice in it. Tasted terrible, and here I am, one of the few fans of liver sausage that you'll find around the 'burbs.
1.5 hours later I developed a stomach ache. 2 hours post-sausage, I felt extreme gut weirdness and violent nausea. Went to bed at 9 p.m., felt a lot better pretty rapidly, and have now awoken from my coma at 4:30 a.m....
How can you watch that many movies? My days are 24 hour long, how about yours? ;-)
Saw Harry Potter this weekend. Loved it :)
btw what yr are you in??
I think that all my movie watching is about to kill me on my next exam. The next four nights will be rather intense.
No movies for me, not even Harry Potter, until Friday at the earliest...
I'm in first year; we're a three year school, though.
well, good luck for the next few days (nights!) ;)
We do it in 3 yrs too. Have you heard of the Medgames?
Really, I knew that Mac was three years too, but I didn't realize that there were any others.
Medgames? Nope, haven't heard of it. Sounds fun, since it has 'games' in its name! :)
Hey Bil, I'm listening to Avril singing Sponge Bob! Your favourite!
Why, how many yrs is it supposed to be?!
The Medgames (www.medgames2006.com) is a huge event, and we are hosting it this year :) It's all about games, sports and party :-) I think there are 12 Faculties that are participating. They're mostly from the east of the country, but also from Ontario, Manitoba... Anyway, it's like the big thing here and we're all excited about it. It will be great to meet other med students from Canada!
That's a pretty big event. It's a bit far to go from Calgary, though. :) Airfare is so expensive these days...
We have a yearly hockey tournament against the medschools from UBC, U of A, U of S, and U of M.
We're a 3 year medschool, while most are 4 year schools. Laval is 4 years long in total, right?
No, in total it's 5 yrs. Actually, you can choose; 4, 4.5 or 5 yrs. The "normal" time is 5 yrs, but people coming from uni sometimes can do it in 4.
Here in Qc, 3 medschools do it in 5 yrs and 1 in 4. I never thought you could do it in 3 yrs?! So this means you'll be in hospitals next yr already?
Yeah, I thought that Calgary and McMaster were the only 3-year schools in North America...
But, I didn't know that there were 5-year programs. Do you get an extra degree out of it, like a B.Sc. or something?
My big sis went to McGill for meds, the usual 4-year thing.
McGill, yeah they have a "pre-med" year just like U of Montreal. In Qc, we have 3 yrs of (what we call) pre-clinic at the university (you learn everything from histology to pulmo, cardio, GI, etc.), then we get to be externs (in hospitals only) and then there's residency. But the school system is different in Quebec (from HS to uni). We enter med school at 19. Is it the same in other provinces?
Where's your sister now?
Really, so nobody in your class has a B.Sc. yet?
You need at least 2 years of undergrad at any of the schools I ever looked at in Canada. You graduate CEGEP at 17, and enter after 2 years of undergrad, right? Here in Calgary, out of 103 people in our class, maybe 5 don't have an undergrad degree. On average at U of C, about 10% (maybe more this year) have PhDs or LLCs, and another 25% have Masters. Our average age is closer to 27.
I can't wait to find out what this years' numbers were, actually. We have one 19-year-old in our class (2008), and there was one in the class of 2007 too.
Nope, we graduate from HS at 17, then 2 years of CEGEP (in pure sciences). And then university (med school!). At my Faculty, 50% of people come directly from CEGEP, others come from university (Masters, PhDs, and many of them did only a couple of yrs in physiotherapy or programs like that to be accepted in medicine). In one of the uni here, 80% of people are from CEGEP (so they're 19). It's quite hard to be accepted, and I'm just glad all of this process is behind me hehe!
Cool, I didn't know there were any straight-from-CEGEP medschools.
Augh, exams start this afternoon. Gotta study!
